The Rockland Boulders scored three runs in the second inning and four more in the sixth en route to a 9-1 crushing of the Winnipeg Goldeyes in Pomona, N.Y. Thursday. It was the first of three games the Goldeyes will play against the Boulders on their 10-game road trip.
The Boulders rolled out to a commanding 3-0 lead early thanks in part to a home run by Stephen Cardullo in the second inning. The four-run sixth inning, giving the Boulders a 7-0 lead, put the game out of reach for the Goldeyes. The flurry of runs was in part thanks to Boulders catcher Scott Knazek's two-run double.
Fish infielder Casey Hearther popped a solo home run in the seventh inning — his first in over a month — but that was all the offence the Goldeyes could muster. The Boulders countered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh, when right-fielder Jerod Edmundson hit a two-run homer.
Boulders pitcher Bobby Blevins threw his fourth complete game of the season, picking up his seventh win. On the losing side, Justin Garcia threw six innings and gave up seven earned runs. He was replaced by Gabe Aguilar.
The rematch takes place tomorrow night at 6 p.m. CT at Provident Bank Park. The pre-game show gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with Paul Edmonds on TSN 1290.
