The Winnipeg Goldeyes increased their lead in the American Association's North Division to 3.5 games with a 10-7 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries on Thursday night.
The Goldeyes were cruising in this game until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the AJ Kirby-Jones of the Canaries cracked a three-run shot to narrow the Fish lead to 9-3. Sioux Falls added four runs in the ninth.
Goldeyes starter Ethan Hollingsworth improved to 6-0 after giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 7-2/3 innings. He struck out four Canaries.
Casey Hearther led the way offensively for the Fish, going 4-for-5 with a home run and boosting his league-leading average to .399. Josh Mazzola got the scoring started in the first with a two-run home run that scored teammate Brock Bond.
Game three of this four-game series in South Dakota goes tonight (Friday) with a 7 p.m. start. Chris Salamida gets the start for the Fish, going up against Kyle Ruwe.
