Fish win 14th series of season
By Ashley Prest
Winnipeg Goldeyes infielder Price Kendall’s day off lasted less than two innings on Tuesday night at Shaw Park.
Kendall started the night in the dugout to rest his sore leg, which would have been his first night off after 74 straight games, but was back in action in the bottom of the second as the Goldeyes (44-31) recorded an 8-2 win over the Sioux Falls Pheasants (34-42).
A crowd of 5,045 saw Goldeyes shortstop Jose Duran leave the game with an apparent leg injury in the bottom of the second after hitting a double. He was replaced by Kendall who finished the game at shortstop, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Matt Rusch (8-2) pitched the first complete game this season by a Goldeyes pitcher, allowing only two runs on five hits to record the win. With the victory, the Goldeyes won their 14th series of the season and have a four-game lead on the Kansas City T-Bones for the wild-card playoff berth.
The Goldeyes and the Pheasants meet again Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the last game of the three-game series. Starting pitchers expected are southpaw Todd Privett (5-4, 3.47) for Winnipeg and lefty Mitchell Clegg (6-5, 5.61) for Sioux Falls.
