  • Print

The Winnipeg Goldeyes clubbed the Sioux Falls Canaries 14-0 in South Dakota Sunday to win the three-game series against their American Association North division rivals 2-1. The Goldeyes won 4-3 on Saturday after losing the opening game 5-1 on Friday.

Josh Mazzola hit three home runs and totalled six RBIs, and teammate Jake Blackwood added a pair of dingers as the Goldeyes improved their season record to 53-33 in front of 2,643 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Fish opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo shot by Blackwood. Mazzola hit a two-run home run in the second that scored Donnie Webb. The Goldeyes blew the game wide open with six runs on seven hits in the fifth inning, and closed it out with four more in the ninth.

Nick Hernandez had six strikeouts and allowed just two hits over seven innings. Kaohi Downing and Taylor Bratton each pitched an inning and retired batters in order.

The Goldeyes now return home to begin a seven-game homestand starting Monday night at 7 p.m. at Shaw Park against the Can Am League's New Jersey Jackals. They'll play a three-game series against the league-leading Jackals before hosting the Canaries in a four-game set.
