Goldeyes' Ace sets strikeout record in win
Winnipeg Goldeyes pitcher Ace Walker became the baseball team's new all-time strikeout leader in the fifth inning, as the Goldeyes (14-6) beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (9-12) 5-2 Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo before 3,443 fans.
Walker finished the game with two strikeouts and now has 315 for his career, which is now two more than Goldeyes manager Rick Forney, who had previously held the record.
"I thought a good way to do it with the down-and-away fastball," Walker said in a statement. "I am not going to lie. When it happened, I thought about it, but I had to get back on there and keep on going."
In his third consecutive win of the season, Walker pitched 8.1 innings, allowing just four hits and one run. He was two outs away from a complete-game shutout, but gave up a solo home run to Fargo's Ryan Delgado and a single to Marcos Rodriguez before being pulled for closer Nick Carr.
