Goldeyes Report

Goldeyes' Kendall to sit out game tonight

Winnipeg Goldeyes second baseman Price Kendall, one of just two Goldeyes players to play every baseball game so far in the 2012 American Association season, will sit out tonight to rest his achy legs.

Kendall will take a seat in the dugout as the Goldeyes host the Sioux Falls Pheasants at 7 p.m. at Shaw Park in the second of the three-game series.

Expected starting pitchers include righty Matt Rusch (7-2, 2.40) for the Goldeyes and right-hander Barry Fowler (1-0, 2.08), who played for the Goldeyes briefly in 2011, for Sioux Falls.

The Goldeyes won Monday's opener 20-16 scoring 20 runs at Shaw Park for the first time ever.

Kendall's place in the infield will be filled by Yurendell de Caster while Luis Alen, the other player who has played all 74 games so far, will get a break from catching to play first base in place of de Caster and Kyle Day will catch.

Newcomer Mike Coles, who joined the Goldeyes on Monday as part of a three-player deal with the Gary SouthShore RailCast, will bat at the top of the order and play left field. Kendall was the leadoff hitter in 69 of the 74 games played so far with Chris Roberson batting first in the first five games this season.

"It's possible for Price (to sit out a game) because we have nine other good positional players here," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney. "We're going to try to give him a day off his legs today. He may pinch-hit later in the game today, I don't know, but we're trying to rotate some people through here in the next few days."

The Goldeyes will be looking for a win to clinch their 14th series win of the season.
