Goldeyes add three pitchers to roster

  • Print

Three new pitchers will join the Winnipeg Goldeyes this season, the team announced Wednesday.

Pitchers Alex Capaul, 24, Tim Griffin, 25, and Colton Pitkin, 23, will pull on a cap for the Fish this year.

Capaul played the last two seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks system, going 2-4 with a 5.54 ERA and two saves in 20 appearances with three teams. "He's a strike-thrower, sinker and slider kind of guy," Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said in a statement.

"He doesn’t produce a lot of swings and misses and strikeouts, but he pitches to both sides of the plate. We’re always looking for guys that will throw the ball over the plate and are willing to compete in the strike zone. They are usually easier to play defence behind."

Griffin was in the Seattle Mariners system for three seasons. In 134 career innings he has walked only 33 batters, and struck out 118.

Pitkin spent five years in the Houston Astros system, and played 36 games for the Advanced-A Lancaster in 2011, where he went 1-0 with a 6.45 ERA.

The Fish now have 16 players signed for the 2013 season, including 11 pitchers and five position players.
