Goldeyes beat Sioux City 3-2 in extra innings
The Winnipeg Goldeyes went the distance and then some to record a 3-2 win over the Explorers in Sioux City, Iowa, Wednesday.
Nick Liles drove home the winning run in the 12th inning after Amos Ramon got on base on an error.
Sioux City got on the board in the third inning, scoring twice on a Bryan Pounds double with two outs. Josh Mazzola and Casey Haerther answered for the Fish in the fourth with back-to-back run-scoring.
The Goldeyes almost broke the tie in the eighth with two runners in scoring position, but Explorers reliever Jimmer Kennedy got Mazzola to strike out swinging to end the threat.
Neither team could break the deadlock through nine, sending the game into extra innings.
Patrick Keating improved to 4-0 for the Goldeyes, pitching 3 1/3 innings of relief while striking out five. He did not allow an Explorer to reach base. Matt Rusch had an impressive start for Winnipeg, going seven strong innings.
The Goldeyes will look to take the three-game series Thursday night at Lewis & Clark Park.
