The Winnipeg Goldeyes got a couple of runs when they needed them to help with a 6-5 win over the Sioux City Explorers Monday night.
Down 5-4 after eight innings, the Goldeyes were able to load the bases in the top of the ninth inning thanks to three walks by the Sioux City bullpen. A double play by Sioux City went awry, allowing two Goldeyes runners to score. That would be enough.
With the win, their sixth in seven games, the Goldeyes move within three games of the Gary SouthShore Railcats for the American Association's wild card race.
Matt Rusch pitched seven innings for the Goldeyes, giving up two runs on eight hits.
The Goldeyes and Explorers meet again in Sioux City Tuesday night.
