Goldeyes drop decision to RedHawks

A one-run lead heading into the ninth inning wasn’t enough for the Winnipeg Goldeyes who gave up three runs in the top of the ninth to drop a 5-3 decision to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

The Goldeyes (26-17) led 3-2 after eight innings but Fargo’s catcher Ryan Delgado cracked a three-run double to lift the RedHawks (22-21) over .500 in front of 5,076 fans at Shaw Park. Winnipeg’s Dexter Carter (0-2) took the loss for the Goldeyes while Fargo’s Kevin Fuqua (1-1) recorded the win while Tom Boleska got his 11th save.

It was the beginning of the longest homestand of the season with 12 games, all against North division opponents. The Goldeyes will meet Fargo tonight at 7 for the second of the four-game set between the two.

Ace Walker (4-2, 3.13 ERA) is expected to start for the Goldeyes while the RedHawks will counter with Alex Caldera (6-1, 2.90).

Fargo scored a run in the top of the third and held the 1-0 lead through through six innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Winnipeg second baseman Price Kendall crushed a two-out, three-run double to get the Goldeyes into the game with a 3-1 lead.

Fargo countered with a solo home run by Nic Jackson in the top of the eighth.
