Goldeyes fall to RedHawks in ninth inning
The Goldeyes squandered a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth, as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks stole a 4-3 win Friday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Winnipeg had been riding high on a four-game winning streak, getting close to adding a fifth, until things went sour in the ninth inning.
After claiming the first run of the game in the first inning (courtesy of Ray Sadler), and then two more in the eighth, the Goldeyes gave up three consecutive hits in the ninth, including a game-tying two-RBI double to Sawyer Carroll. Kyle Bellamy then came in hoping to get the game to extra innings, but surrendered a single to C.J. Retherford to end the game.
Lost in the defeat was another spectacular outing from Anderson, who pitched seven scoreless innings and gave Winnipeg every opportunity to win the game. He lowered his ERA to a league-best 0.91.
The Goldeyes will play the RedHawks again on Saturday night and plan to start Matt Jackson against Fargo's Jake Laber.
