Goldeyes fly in replacement help

WINNIPEG - If a member of the Winnipeg Goldeyes was going to get injured, it’s a little fortuitous for manager Rick Forney that it happened just before the Northern League’s trade deadline.

After second baseman Josh Asanovich injured his knee in Monday’s 13-4 loss to Fargo, Forney got on the horn to hook up replacements before the midnight deadline.

The Goldeyes traded for infielders Vince Harrison from Joliet and Mark Minicozzi from Kansas City. Harrison sits sixth in the league with a .324 batting average, while Minicozzi has nine home runs and 37 RBI.

Joliet and Kansas City will each receive future considerations from the Goldeyes.

Asanovich was hurt in the first inning of Monday’s game while trying to track down a Nic Jackson pop fly. He’s expected to be out at least seven days.
