Goldeyes lose another game in Laredo

LAREDO, Texas — The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost a second straight game here on Tuesday as the Laredo Lemurs scored a pair of eighth-inning runs to put up a 3-1 win.

Goldeyes manager Rick Forney was tossed from the game for the first time in the 2012 American Association season in the eighth inning. The Goldeyes had eight hits but none in the last three innings.

A crowd of 5,419 fans took in the action at the Uni-Trade Stadium. Winnipeg (3-2) and Laredo (4-2) will meet for the final game of the three-game series here Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Lefty Chris Salamida is expected to start for the Goldeyes.

It was 39 C at game time; players were dripping sweat after batting practice.

The Winnipeg side wore blue shirts since they lost 5-1 on Monday after wearing reds for three wins in Amarillo but it didn't help in this late-game loss.

There's no phone lines or Internet at Uni-Trade Stadium so the game, usually broadcast on TSN 1290 radio in Winnipeg will be broadcast on Gimli's www.cj107radio.com .

Play-by-play broadcaster Paul Edmonds is using Goldeyes manager Rick Forney's cellphone to broadcast the game.
