Goldeyes on three-game winning streak heading into home opener

  • Print

The Winnipeg Goldeyes will be at Shaw Park for their home opener Monday night after completing their first series sweep of the season.

The Fish (7-3) concluded their 10-game season-opening road swing with a 6-4 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs on Sunday to take that series 3-0.

Ray Sadler got the Goldeyes on the board with a solo shot in the third inning, tying the game 1-1 after Ian Gac homered for the Saltdogs in the second. In the fourth inning, Casey Haerther scored on an RBI single by Ryan Pineda. Gac tied it up again with another solo homer in the Saltdogs' next at bat. Fish batters Haerther and Pineda belted singles in the sixth and scored when rookie catcher Jordan Guida hit a double. The Goldeyes scored two more runs in the eighth, with Reggie Abercrombie and Donnie Webb crossing home plate. The Saltdogs completed the scoring with two in their half of the eighth.

After getting lit up in his first two starts, Fish pitcher Chris Salamida finally recorded his first win of the season. Salamida had one strikeout, no walks and retired 21 of the 26 batters he faced while throwing just 84 pitches. Kyle Bellamy pitched the ninth to earn the save.

The Goldeyes will play the Sioux City Explorers in their home opener Monday night in the first game of a three-game series. Game time is 7 p.m.
