Goldeyes sign Jarvis
The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed their first player of the off-season on Wednesday, locking down pitcher Jason Jarvis for the 2014 season.
Jarvis, a former Los Angeles Angels draft pick, joined the club late in their playoff push, after the Goldeyes picked him up from the struggling Sioux City Explorers for three players "to be named later." Those ended up being southpaw hurler Edgar Osuna and infielder Kevin Moesquit, as well as the American Association rights to Nate Samson, who was picked up by the big leagues through the season.
The pitcher carried himself well in his four starts, going 2-1 with a 2.19 ERA. One of those was a complete-game shutout against the St. Paul Saints.
"In the short period of time he spent with us, he was very impressive," Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said. "He’s one of the many pieces I feel that can help us achieve a title in 2014."
Overall last season, Jarvis, who makes his off-season home in Sioux City, went 7-11 with a 3.92 ERA in 22 starts with the Goldeyes and Explorers. He tossed three complete games, including a pair of complete-game shutouts.
