Goldeyes sign first baseman Casey Haerther
The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed their top run producer for the 2014 season.
First baseman Casey Haerther has been signed to a new contract, manager Rick Forney announced today.
Haerther led the team with 66 RBI in 2013. In 97 games last season, he also hit .307 with 10 homers and 32 extra-base hits, which was third on the club.
Forney was equally thrilled to be bringing back a steady defensive player, he said in a statement today.
"He’s a very productive offensive player, but one of the things I like best about Casey is that he has a really good glove at first base," Forney said. "He has sure hands, good feet around the bag and makes the routine play with consistency. He also makes the other infielders better by doing a really good job of digging balls out of the dirt."
Haerther was chosen by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the fifth round of 2009's draft after playing at UCLA.
The team now has 11 players signed for the coming season, including six pitchers.
