Goldeyes sign former Expos draft pick
Former Montreal Expos draft pick and Washington Nationals minor-league player of the year Leonard Davis has been signed by the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the 2013 season.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced the signing of the 29-year-old infielder-outfielder this morning.
Davis spent a season away from baseball in 2012 for personal reasons.
He last played in 2011, splitting his time between the New Jersey Jackals of the CanAm League and the Harrisburg Senators (AA) of the Eastern League.
With New Jersey, Davis hit .317 with nine homers and 36 RBI in 52 games.
"He fits the criteria that we look for with the Goldeyes in terms of having some players with some flexibility and versatility in being able to play multiple positions," Forney said in today’s announcement.
A 2004 draft pick, Davis combined for a .308 average, 25 homers and 76 RBI in 122 games in Advanced-A, Double-A and Triple-A that season, earning minor-league player of the year honours in the Nationals’ system.
