Goldeyes sign playoff MVP Amos Ramon

  • Print

Amos Ramon is returning to help the Winnipeg Goldeyes in their quest for another American Association crown.

The Goldeyes announced Monday that Ramon, the league’s playoff MVP this September, has signed a new deal to return. Ramon is the first player signing for the 2013 season.

The 29-year-old infielder hit .281 with four home runs and 35 RBI in 71 games for the Fish this past season, despite missing a month of the campaign with a separated shoulder. And in the playoffs he was dominant, hitting .476 with two homers and nine RBI, including game-winning dingers in Game 1 of the divisional series win over Fargo and the championship versus Wichita.

"Amos has the ability to be an impact player on anybody’s team," said Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney. "He has battled two injury-filled seasons so far. We’re hoping we can get him on the field for 100 games this year and watch more of what we watched during the post-season last year."

Ramon, who played for the Goldeyes in 2006, returned in 2011 but his season would last only four innings after he tore his ACL on opening day. He holds a .303 career batting average in 368 games, all of which are at the independent level.
