Goldeyes sign right-handed hurler

AMARILLO, Texas — The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed right-handed pitcher Alex Jones, 25, who has spent the past two seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

The 6-foot-6 pitcher, expected to be used in relief, has joined the team here at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium where the Goldeyes are opening the 2012 American Association season tonight against the Amarillo Sox.

"He's signed but we'll have to see how the game goes as to whether he gets in or not," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney.

It is the first visit to Texas for the Goldeyes, who will play three games in Amarillo followed by three games in Laredo against the Lemurs and three in El Paso against the Diablos.
