Fish sign two pitchers
A pair of pitchers, right-handers Dexter Carter and Clayton Shunick, have been signed by the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the 2012 American Association season. The team has also parted ways with pitchers from last season Isaac Hess, Zach Baldwin and Aaron Hartsock and infielder Steve Singleton.
Hess was traded to the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League for future considerations while Baldwin, Hartsock and Singleton were released. Hartsock and Singleton retired from professional baseball while Baldwin has enrolled in university.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said he plans to use Shunick as a starter and Carter as relief pitcher.
Shunick, 25, played last season in the Cincinnati Reds organization between High-A Bakersfield of the California League and double-A Carolina of the Southern League. In 31 games with Bakersfield, he had a 3-3 record with a 2.51 ERA and four saves. He had a 4.91 ERA and 0-1 record in nine appearances with Carolina.
Carter, 25, played last season with single-A Kannapolis of the South Atlantic League in the Chicago White Sox organization. He had a 3-5 record with a 6.65 ERA in 14 games, including 12 starts.
The Goldeyes now have 22 players signed for the 2012 season, including 10 pitchers and 12 position players.
