The Winnipeg Goldeyes are returning home on a losing note after dropping a 4-3 decision to the St. Paul Saints at Midway Stadium Wednesday in the rubber match of a three–game series.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Saints first baseman Dan Kaczrowski hit an RBI single to score the decisive run.
The Saints scored runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings off Goldeyes starter Justin Garcia to go up 3-0. Goldeyes right-fielder Josh Mazzola hit a solo homee in the sixth and Leonard Davis tied the game with a two-run homer in the eighth.
Garcia allowed three runs over seven innings, striking out nine with three walks. Brendan Lafferty took the loss after pitching an inning of relief.
With the loss, the Goldeyes fall into a first-place tie with the Saints in the American Association’s North Division, each with 17-15 records.
The Goldeyes begin a four-game series with the Lincoln Saltdogs Thursday night. Winnipeg will send Pete Gehle to the mound against Lincoln’s Moses Melendez.
