There will be a new Fish voice in town, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes are bringing up a new broadcaster from down south.
On Thursday, the Goldeyes announced that Steve Schuster would take over as the team’s official broadcaster, offering play-by-play and Goldeyes interviews on freshly rebranded outlet The Jewel 101 at 100.7 FM. He is following in the footsteps of Paul Edmonds, who was famous as the voice of the Fish for the past 19 years. Edmonds recently left the Goldeyes to take a gig at TSN 1290.
Schuster comes to Winnipeg after spending six seasons with the league’s Wichita Wingnuts, where he did double-duty as the team broadcaster and its media relations director. He also did five seasons under the same title with the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League.
He kicked off his broadcasting career in 2003, at the University of Michigan’s student radio station, then took an broadcasting and media relations internship with the American Association’s Lincoln Saltdogs in 2007.
Schuster will officially start his work with the Goldeyes on March 17, and will make his first Goldeyes hosting appearance when he hosts The Inside Pitch on March 20 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the off-season, he will serve as an account executive with the team.
