Weber, de Caster will miss Goldeyes' home opener

The Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team will open its home schedule on Tuesday without left-fielder Jon Weber and first baseman Yurendell de Caster who have been suspended by the American Association.

The Goldeyes host the Amarillo Sox Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Shaw Park.

Weber will serve a two-game suspension while de Caster is suspended for one game, effective immediately.

The two veteran players were suspended for being ejected following an altercation in the eighth inning of Saturday’s loss in in El Paso, Texas against the Diablos.

About 7,100 tickets have been sold.

Goldeyes manager Rick Forney has released pitcher Brian Leach, 26.

Leach started one game and had a 11.74 ERA in three outings.

The Goldeyes now have 22 players, including 11 pitchers and 11 position players, to meet the American Association’s roster deadline on Sunday.
