Blue boxers mean cold cash for Goldeyes charity

IT was easily the most unexpected fundraising initiative by a local professional sports organization and the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball club hit a home run by raising $2,000 so far with their "pants on the ground" boxer shorts fundraiser.

Launched during the 2010 season, the Goldeyes' campaign to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer involved the sale of Goldeyes blue boxer shorts at the Dugout Souvenir Store inside Canwest Park and a short video that went viral linking the Pants on the Ground song from last season's American Idol auditions with Goldeyes personnel going about their daily business wearing the blue boxers and no pants.

The proceeds from the sale of the boxer shorts are being donated to CancerCare Manitoba.

Fans can still purchase a pair of the blue boxer shorts at the Dugout Souvenir Store at Canwest Park or online at Goldeyes.com.
