Fish glad Eggleston now on their side

OUTFIELDER Aharon Eggleston has tormented the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team for years with his hitting and fielding skills.

But now Eggleston is on their side.

Goldeyes manager Rick Forney has made Eggleston, 28, his first signing for the 2010 season after completing a trade with Kansas City T-Bones for the rights to the two-time Northern League all-star.

Eggleston, whose first name is pronounced erin, played for the T-Bones for the past three seasons and was a key player in the T-Bones' 2008 NL championship. In 2009, Eggleston was named a league all-star for the second straight year. He became the only player in NL history to lead the league in hits in consecutive seasons with 123 in 2009 and 126 in 2008.

A career .317 hitter in five seasons of independent baseball, Eggleston also played with the Edmonton Cracker-Cats before joining Kansas City in 2007.

To get Eggleston, the Goldeyes gave up pitcher Andrew Cruse (5-5 with a 4.58 ERA) and a player to be named later.

Last season, Eggleston also tied a league record held by four other outfielders with a 1.000 (215/215) fielding percentage.
