Fish were swingin' in the rain
Hammer Sioux Falls in wet conditions
NOT even a little rain delay could cool the offence of the Winnipeg Goldeyes. They started strong and never slowed down, even after the tarp was rolled off the field. The Fish picked up their third straight win over the Sioux Falls Canaries, a 12-6 triumph at Shaw Park.
Casey Haerther started things off in the first inning when he smacked a two-run double. In the second Jake Blackwood drove in two more runs of his own with a double to centre field and would later score off a shot from second baseman Tyler Kuhn.
The rain started coming down in third inning, but just for good measure, Blackwood posted his third RBI of the game by driving home Ryan Pineda from third base to put the Fish up 6-0. Blackwood went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
The game was delayed for about an hour and the Canaries appeared set on taking advantage of a cold Matthew Jackson arm. Jackson struggled in the fifth, an inning after the action resumed, giving up two runs on several hits. He then walked a batter to load the bases for Chris Duffy, who hit a huge two-run double to centre that put his team within two.
The Fish answered with two in their half to go up 8-4.
They capped it off in the seventh, when Reggie Abercrombie crushed a two-run home run to left field to make it 12-4.
The Canaries added one in the eighth and Duffy struck again in the ninth with a solo home run.
On the mound
Starter Jackson went five innings, giving up nine hits and striking out four. The win was his third straight and improved his record to 11-6 on the season.
Credit goes to the bullpen as well for shutting down any momentum the Canaries had, as relievers Gabe Aguilar and Kaohi Downing each came in for one inning after Jackson was pulled.
The Goldeyes will close out the series and go for the four-game sweep of the Sioux Falls Canaries today at 1:30 p.m.
