Glant feasts on Pheasants in solid rebound performance

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Dustin Glant had something to prove when he took the mound for the Winnipeg Goldeyes to begin Wednesday night's game against the Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants.

He had nothing left to prove by night's end.

The 29-year-old Florida right-hander was superb in his second start of the season, striking out eight and giving up just one hit through six innings as the Fish won their fifth straight with a 4-0 victory.

It was a solid rebound performance by Glant, who was shaky in his first start of the season last Saturday and went down as the pitcher of record in a 5-3 loss to Fargo that is still the only loss of the season for the Fish.

But there were no signs of rust here last night, as Glant showed command in retiring 11 of 12 batters at one point.

"Having the only bad game, I felt like the odd man out until I did something to help us win," Glant said. "Everyone else was kicking butt and I felt like I screwed up my start. I'm just happy to finally be able to contribute."

The Fish were led offensively by Kody Kaiser, who moved from his customary spot at second base into left field last night and responded by getting on base twice and scoring both times. And former big-leaguer Brian Myrow also had a big night, swatting his first home run of the season to finish the night 2-5 with two runs and two more driven in.

"We're pitching really well, we're playing good defence and we're getting timely hits," said Myrow. "As long as we keep doing that, we're going to have a chance."

The two clubs are scheduled to play the final leg of a four-game series here tonight. The Pheasants have now lost five in a row.
