JackHammers 1

Ace Walker lived up to his name Wednesday night as the Winnipeg Goldeyes right-hander threw a four-hit masterpiece in a 2-1 Fish victory over the Joliet JackHammers.

Walker came within one out of what would have been his sixth complete game of the season and second shutout. But with two outs in the ninth inning, Goldeyes shortstop Adam Frost threw wild with what would have been the game-ending out. When the next JackHammers batter singled, that was enough for Fish manager Rick Forney and he yanked Walker with runners on the corners.

Fish reliever Chris Homer promptly gave up an RBI single to make things interesting before getting Joliet's Wally Backman Jr. to ground out to first for the final out.

The win was the league-leading 11th for Walker, who spent four seasons in the Texas Rangers system before joining the Goldeyes last season.
