Goldeyes wrap up pre-season with win Strong-armed Ace

AFTER finishing the pre-season with a 5-2 win over the St. Paul's Saints, Winnipeg Goldeyes' manager Rick Forney pronounced his team ready for prime time.

"We're pleased with what we have in camp and the way the guys have gone about their business," he said following Thursday's matinee. "There seems to be a lot of energy in the clubhouse and that spills over on to the field. We can't wait to get the season started."

The team finished with a pre-season record of three wins and three losses.

Pitcher Ace Walker was the player of the game and winning pitcher Thursday, throwing four scoreless innings and giving up only a single hit. Right fielder Victor Ferrante had three hits while left fielder Kody Kaiser and third baseman Amos Ramon had two each. Kaiser produced the most exciting play of the game when he tripled to the gap in right centre in the fifth inning and came around to score on an error.

Isaac Hess is slated to be the Goldeyes' Opening Day pitcher on Thursday.
