Marlins activate INF Lucas from DL, start him vs Braves; Dobbs cut

  • Print

MIAMI - The Miami Marlins have activated utility infielder Ed Lucas from the disabled list and started him at second base against the Atlanta Braves.

The Marlins cut pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs, designating him for assignment before Tuesday night's game.

Miami also said right-hander Jacob Turner would come off the DL to start Saturday at home against the Dodgers. Turner has been out because of a strained shoulder.

The 31-year-old Lucas was hit by a pitch, breaking his left hand just four days before the start of the regular season. He can play all four infield positions and serve as an emergency catcher. Lucas went 6 for 14 in three rehab games at Single-A Jupiter.

The 35-year-old Dobbs was 1 for 13 this year. Dobbs has a one-year contract for $1.7 million.

Turner has made one start this season. With him in the rotation, Kevin Slowey will go to the bullpen.
