LOS ANGELES, Calif. - First baseman Jose Abreu has been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list by the Chicago White Sox after missing 14 games because of tendinitis in his left ankle.

The rookie slugger from Cuba rejoined the club Monday for the start of a three-game series at Dodger Stadium. When he left the lineup, he was leading the majors with 15 home runs and ranked second with 42 RBIs. The White Sox were 8-6 in his absence.

Abreu set major league rookie records for homers (10), RBIs (32), extra-base hits (19) and total bases (71) in April and was selected AL rookie of the month. He takes the roster spot of infielder Marcus Semien, who was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after Sunday's game in San Diego.
