Brendan Taman resigns as Blue Bombers player-personnel director
WINNIPEG - Brendan Taman resigned Tuesday as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers vice-president of player personnel.
"We truly are sorry to see Brendan leave after all that he has given to this organization over the years" Bombers president Lyle Bauer said in a statement. "Brendan's contributions are immense however we need to respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best in the future."
Bauer, however, also said Taman could return to the organization sometime down the road.
"After speaking with Brendan at length it is his desire to step away from the game at this time however that does not preclude future involvement such as special projects consultant in the future if the circumstances are right," he said.
Taman has been with the Bombers since 1999, serving as the club's assistant general manager, player-personnel director as well as a five-year stint as Winnipeg's general manager.
He assumed the player-personnel position at season's end when team fired head coach Doug Berry, then hired Mike Kelly to be the head coach. Under the new structure, Taman and Kelly would work together in sharing the GM duties and answering to Bauer.
