Canadian Sarah Conrad wins bronze in final World Cup halfpipe of season
VALMALENCO, Italy - Sarah Conrad of Halifax closed out the World Cup snowboard halfpipe season by winning a bronze medal Saturday, the second podium finish of her career.
Conrad scored 38.9 points in her first of two runs in the finals to take the third provisional score but could get no further.
She fell on her second run and settled for third behind Jiayu Lui of China, who scored 46.4 points, and Holly Crawford of Australia, who had 40.6 points.
"It feels very good to be on the podium again," she said. "The season got off to a slow start but definitely picked up near the end. Podiums are a good way to shut it off and hopefully we'll get some more next year."
Conrad hadn't won a medal since the 2008 Snowboard Jamboree in Stoneham, Quebec last March.
Dominique Vallee of Montreal and Alexandra Duckworth of Kinsgburg, N.S., didn't qualify for the finals and finished 10th and 21st, respectively.
Conrad finished the season as Canada's top female halfpipe rider in the overall standings in 13th.
No Canadian men advanced to the finals Saturday.
French rider Gary Zebrowski took home the gold with a best run of 48 points. Nathan Johnstone of Australia grabbed the second position with 42.4 points while Chinese Xiaoye Zeng came in third scoring 41.9 points.
The World Cup concludes Sunday with the parallel giant slalom.
