City architect designed hundreds of golf courses at home and abroad

Respected golf course architect Geoffrey Cornish, a native of Winnipeg and a member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, died at the age of 97 on Friday at Amherst, Mass.

Cornish was a Fellow of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) and an ASGCA Past President. He was a former greenskeeper at St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg.

He was best known for assisting in the design of 240 golf courses in the United States, Canada and Europe as well as writing numerous books about the architectural history and designers of golf courses.

He continued to serve with Mungeam Cornish Golf Design until his death.
