Cone jumps clean round to take early lead at Canadian show jumping championship
TORONTO - Mac Cone jumped a clean round aboard Ole on Friday to lead after the first round of the $100,000 Canadian show jumping championship at the 87th Royal Horse Show.
Cone led the round with a score of 65.500. Cone didn't have the fastest time, but the King City, Ont., native left all the jumps up - a feat Cone's Olympic teammate Ian Millar didn't accomplish.
"Ole is really on top of his game right now, looking around the turns and to the next jump," Cone said.
Millar, from Perth, Ont., rode Redefin to a second-place total of 68.150.
Defending champion Keean White of Rockwood, Ont., finished third with a score 68.490.
Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, were in attendance as part of their Canadian visit.
The second round goes Saturday.
