Crocus Plains earns date with St. Mary's
AAAA girls volleyball final berths decided
The Crocus Plains Plainsmen varsity girls volleyball team of Brandon and the No. 1 seed St. Mary's Flames, which both lost in last year’s semifinals, will meet in the girls' championship final of the 2011 Boston Pizza AAAA Provincial High School Volleyball Championships.
The girls' championship final is set for Monday at 6 p.m. at the University of Manitoba Investors Group Athletic Centre when the third-seed Crocus Plains will meet the No. 1-seed St. Mary's Flames.
On Wednesday night in the girls' semifinals, the Plainsmen upset the second-seeded Miles Macdonell Buckeyes in the first semifinal match 16-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-23. Players of the game were Kendra Bommersbach of Miles Mac and Mary Thomson of Crocus Plains.
In the second semifinal, the St. Mary's team defeated the No. 4 seed Glenlawn Lions 25-17, 19-25, 25-13, 25-14. The players of the game were Chelsea Jones from St. Mary's and Malorie Kurtenbach from Glenlawn.
The boys’ semifinals will take the court at IGAC on Thursday with the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes (1) meeting the Lord Selkirk Royals (5) at 6 p.m. followed at 8 p.m. by the Mennonite Brethren Hawks (2) taking on the St. Paul’s Crusaders (3).
The boys' championship final will be held on Monday at 8 p.m. Both championship games will be broadcast live on Shaw TV.
