Dane Pischke wins memorial scholarship
Dane Pischke, a fourth-year right-side player with the University of Manitoba Bisons men's volleyball team, has been selected as the recipient of the Dr. Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Scholarship for 2011-12 season.
Pischke, a graduate of Fort Richmond Collegiate, also won the scholarship last year.
Named after the former Bisons captain and five-time all-Canadian Dr. Dale Iwanoczko who died on Sept. 15, 1998 after a battle with cancer, the scholarship provides support to a returning Bisons men's volleyball player who best exemplifies leadership in volleyball and academics. The award of $1,500 goes to an undergraduate student-athlete who is in the third, fourth, or fifth year with the Bison men’s volleyball program.
Pischke, 21, will be presented with the scholarship on Friday night prior to the 8 p.m. match at the U of M Investors Group Athletic Centre when the No. 3-ranked Bisons will host the No. 2-ranked Alberta Golden Bears.
