Goldeyes had top attendance
You love them, you really love them.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes found out Tuesday that they led all independent professional baseball teams in North America in average attendance of 5,740 fans per game in the 2011 season.
It is the 10th time in the past 11 seasons that the Goldeyes achieved the top attendance mark in independent baseball, which includes 51 teams in Canada and the USA. The Goldeyes had finished second last season to the Long Island Ducks of the Atlanta League. This season, Goldeyes registered nearly 200 more fans per game than the Long Island team.
"As an organization we worked hard during the off-season to improve the game day experience for our fans," Goldeyes general manager Andrew Collier said in a press release.
"The attendance numbers show that the hard work was once again appreciated by the best fans in independent baseball, who enjoyed some great baseball and great weather during July and August."
The Goldeyes were one of just five independent teams to record an increase in attendance in the 2011 season from last season.
In the AA, the Goldeyes also led the league with a total attendance of 275,521 in the team’s 48 home games.
The Winnipeg club is already preparing for the 2012 season with season tickets and nine-game mini packs information available by calling the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273).
