Goldeyes sign Kendall

The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed infielder and leadoff hitter Price Kendall to a contract for the 2012 American Association season, the club announced Saturday.

Kendall, 26, was named the American Association’s rookie of the year in 2011, finishing with a .324 batting average and 54 RBI. A Vacaville, Calif.-product, he played in all 100 games for the Fish last summer and led the team with 135 hits.

Based on those numbers and his impact within the Winnipeg offence, bringing Kendall back into the fold was automatic for manager Rick Forney.

"Price has become a durable infielder that hits for average in the leadoff spot," Forney said in a statement. "I am excited to have him back in my line up next summer and look forward to him building on his first two seasons in Winnipeg."

Kendall joined the Goldeyes in 2010 after making the club in training camp as a non-roster invitee. He played in 48 games for the Fish that year and thanks to AA rules, he retained his rookie status for the

2011 season because his limited professional experience was with one club.

Winnipeg has three players under contract for the 2012 season.
