Paul LaPolice has been nominated for the CFL's Coach of the Year award.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice is one of three finalists for the Annis Stukus Trophy, which is otherwise known as the CFL’s coach of the year award.
LaPolice, in just his second year as a CFL head coach, led the Bombers to a 10-8 record, an East Division title, and and appearance in the 99th Grey Cup in 2011. The Bombers dropped the CFL championship game 34-23 to the B.C. Lions.
LaPolice was 4-14 in his first year as Winnipeg’s head coach.
Lions head coach Wally Buono and Edmonton coach Kavis Reed — who served as LaPolice’s defensive co-ordinator in 2010 – are also up for the honour. The winner will be announced March 2 in Toronto.
The last time a Winnipeg head coach picked up the award was in 2001, when Dave Ritchie led the Bombers to a 14-4 record and a Grey Cup appearance.
Mike Riley (1988, 1990); Cal Murphy (1983-84); Ray Jauch (1980); and Bud Grant (1965) are the other Bomber head coaches to win the Annis Stukus Trophy.
