Moose retiring Keane’s jersey

The Manitoba Moose will retire the first jersey in their history Feb. 12 when Mike Keane’s No. 12 goes up to the rafters of the MTS Centre.

When the Moose play the San Antonio Rampage that night, Keane will be honoured with the number retirement and a special tribute.

The team’s former captain played five seasons here in the AHL after a storied NHL career that saw him win the Stanley Cup with three different teams.

The former Montreal Canadiens captain played 1,230 regular-season NHL games and 443 more in the AHL before the Moose decided last summer not to offer him a new contract.

The last pro jersey retired in Winnipeg was Thomas Steen’s No. 25 near the end of the Jets’ tenure.
