Parker, Doer win sports media awards

  • Print

Andrew Parker and Emily Doer are the 2011-12 recipients of the MSSA Jack Matheson Memorial Awards, the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association announced Tuesday.

Currently enrolled in the Creative Communications program at Red River College and at the University of Winnipeg, both Parker and Doer each receive $750 from the association for their work over the last year within the sports media community.

The Matheson awards were established in 2002 as a financial aid for post-secondary students interested in the sports media field. Matheson was a longtime sports editor of the defunct Winnipeg Tribune and CJOB commentator. He passed away Jan. 24, 2011.

Both Parker and Doer will be formally honoured at the 56th annual Manitoba Athletes of the Year dinner at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel Jan. 29.
