Pembina Valley Hawks’ goaltender Jordan Taylor, 17, scored a goal in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League last week to be named the Chicken Chef West Division player of the week.
He became the first goaltender known to score a goal in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.
Friday the 13th was good luck for Taylor, a native of LaSalle. The Interlake Lightning, trailing 3-1 against Pembina Valley, pulled their goaltender in favour of an extra attacker with just under a minute left in the game. On a cross-ice dump-in, Taylor got the puck and shot it the length of the ice into the open net.
Honourable mentions are Brad Bowles of the Yellowhead Chiefs, Tyler Coulter of the Brandon Wheat Kings and Zack Waldvogel of the Central Plains Capitals.
Lodie Ipeelie of the Norman Northstars was named the DEKALB East Division player of the week after he scored twice, once on a power play and once short-handed, to help the Northstars battle to a 3-2 shootout loss to the Parkland Rangers last Thursday.
Ipeelie, a 16-year-old native of Iqaluit, Nunavut, is sixth in team scoring with seven goals and 11 assists.
