Winnipegger takes 10 medals in swimming championship

Winnipeg’s Manta Swim Club star, Chantal Van Landeghem, took the west coast by storm over the weekend, winning seven gold and three silver medals in women’s over-16 competition at the Speedo 2011 Western Canadian Championships in Kamloops.

Van Landeghem, 16, picked up her fifth victory Sunday afternoon in the women’s 50 backstroke with a time of 28.34. On Friday she picked up three wins, and one more on Sunday. She also led Manta to two relay wins. In the 400 freestyle relay, she joined Emily Ducette, Jessica Plant and Camille Dixon to win with a time of 3:44.59, and in the 400 medley relay, the quartet won in 4:09.76.

Van Landeghem’s other wins came in the 100 back (58.82), 50 butterfly (26.74), 50 free (24.59), 100 free (53.37), and 200 back (2:11.29).

Her silver medals came in the 100 butterfly (1:00.51), 200 back (2:11.29) and 200 individual medley (2:14.45).
