Logjam atop men's standings at Canadian junior curling championships
NAPANEE, Ont. - Nova Scotia's Stuart Thompson, Manitoba's Kyle Doering and B.C.'s Kesa Van Osch each picked up victories in Draw 12 on Tuesday to grab a share of the lead at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian junior curling championship.
Both the men's and women's Alberta rinks suffered their first defeats of the tournament in Draw 12, with Brendan Bottcher's Edmonton rink losing 9-5 to Doering and Jocelyn Peterman of Red Deer, Alta., also dropping a 9-5 decision to Manitoba's Shannon Birchard.
Thompson beat Quebec's Felix Asselin 11-2 to move into first alongside Doering and Bottcher with a 6-1.
Van Osch tied Peterman at 6-1 when she scored four in the ninth end to complete a 12-3 rout against Erica Trickett's Newfoundland and Labrador rink.
In the 12th draw, Nova Scotia's Emily Dwyer and Manitoba's Shannon Birchard each improved to 5-2 for a second-place tie. Dywer edged Quebec 11-7 while Birchard handed Peterman her first loss.
New Brunswick's Jennifer Armstrong was alone in third at 4-3 after losing 9-5 to Ontario's Jamie Sinclair (4-4).
On the men's side, Ontario's Brett DeKoning won 11-9 over New Brunswick and B.C.'s Josh Hozack earned a 5-3 win over Colin Thomas's Newfoundland and Labrador rink.
The Yukon, idle in the 12th draw, is in second place at 4-2 while Asselin is third at 5-3.
