2008 Tim Hortons Brier

Blue loonies for Brier fans

One thousand free blue loonies will be handed out to Brier fans on Saturday to help them save on parking and bus fare.

Downtown Watch ambassadors will distribute 500 tokens to curling fans at the semi-final game at the MTS Centre at 1:30 p.m. and at an autograph session for all teams at the Brier Patch at the Winnipeg Convention Centre at 5:30 p.m.

The blue loonies can be used for one hour of free parking at street meters or most downtown parking lots or parkades. They can also be used for full bus fare.

Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ, said downtown bars, restaurants and other businesses have been packed since the Brier started last weekend and the blue loonies were a way for merchants to show their appreciation.
