2008 Tim Hortons Brier

Stoughton would give Brier badges to Alberta

Former world champ Jeff Stoughton has been blogging this week for cbc.ca and offers this bang-on assessment of Alberta's Kevin Martin:

"Class of the field: Team Alberta. Someone better check their blood, because I think they may be Terminators. They finished the round robin with a perfect 11-0 record. I don't see this team losing over the weekend."

He summarized Manitoba's week as a major disappointment and wrote: "The home team never got things going during the last half of the week with Burtnyk being uncharacteristically off his game. I know they are more disappointed than the fans and I'm sure they are looking for answers for their disappointing play."

Here are Stoughton's all-stars: skip: Kevin Martin (Alberta); third: John Morris (Alberta); second: Marc Kennedy (Alberta) lead: Rick Sawatsky (B.C.).

The fans just love Hans

With the action in Friday's tiebreaker hardly compelling -- a first-end steal of three will do that to the drama -- fans found their own way to amuse themselves. During a time-out, icemaker Hans Wuthrich was doing his unique two-step as he was pebbling Sheet A when one fan just couldn't hold it in. "IIIIce-maaaaaker," came the chant, and an ovation followed.
