Calvert comes up short at world junior curling

  • Print

Braden Calvert's team from Winnipeg has been ousted from the World Junior Men's Curling Championship.

Calvert and his Canadian team of Kyle Kurz, Lucas Van Den Bosch, Brendan Wilson and alternate Matt Dunstone lost 6-5 in an extra end to host Switzerland this morning.

The Canadians scored a pair in the 10th end to knot the score at 5, but Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller used the hammer in the 11th to score the winning point and secure a spot in the semifinal against Norway.

The squad from Norway had earlier lost to Scotland in the 1 vs. 2 playoff game.

In junior women's play, Canada's Kelsey Rocque edged South Korea's Kyeong-Ae Kim 7-6 on Monday night in the 1 vs. 2 game to advance to the championship game.

South Korea will now face Sweden in the semifinal.

Rocque's foursome is from Edmonton.
