Jones, Spencer rinks 4-0 at Scotties
STONEWALL -- Former Manitoba women’s curling champions Jennifer Jones and Barb Spencer will head into Friday still undefeated here at the 2013 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Jones improved to 4-0 on the 4 p.m. draw with a 7-2 defeat of Stonewall’s Kate Cameron (2-2), while Spencer moved to 4-0 with a 9-1 throttling of Thompson’s Charlene Norquay (0-4).
In other games, Janet Harvey improved to 3-1 with a 10-2 clobbering of La Salle’s Deb McCreanor (0-4), while Michelle Montford also moved to 3-1 with a 10-3 hammering of Liza Park’s Brandon foursome (0-4).
"We’re pretty happy. That was our goal -- to be 4-0," said Jones. "I thought we played pretty well over the last couple of days and are feeling pretty good heading into tomorrow."
After opening this event with a pair of wins on Wednesday, Cameron’s Stonewall foursome had a sobering day on Thursday with a pair of lopsided losses to the veterans Jones and Spencer.
"We’ve been playing great teams and this is more than we expected," said Cameron. "It’s been awesome so far."
The Scotties resumes on the 7:45 p.m. draw, with Chelsea Carey (2-1) playing Karen Fallis (2-1); Cathy Overton-Clapham (0-3) playing Lisa Menard (0-3); Jill Thurston (1-2) playing Stacey Fordyce (1-2); and, in a battle of two undefeated teams, Darcy Robertson playing Colleen Kilgallen.
Earlier Thursday, Scotties organizers announced that the 2014 Manitoba women’s curling championship will be held at Tundra Oil and Gas Place in Virden, a new 1200-seat arena and community centre.
