  • Print

Winnipeg’s Olympic gold-medal winning athletes were honoured at a double ceremony at city hall over the noon hour.

The Royal Canadian Mint presented a commemorative Lucky Loonie to Mayor Sam Katz on behalf of all of the city’s gold-medal winning athletes.

Then Katz, presented the city’s Outstanding Achievement Award medallions to members of Team Jones -- Jennifer Jones, Jill Officer, Kaitlyn Lawes and Dawn McEwen.

Other gold-medal athletes that call Winnipeg home are Jonathan Toews, Jocelyne Larocque (women’s hockey), and Ryan Fry (men’s curling).

Patrick Sharp, on the men’s hockey team, was born in Winnipeg but raised in Thunder Bay.
